Application to mix music on Android/Music Maker Jam for Android is an incredibly fun way to mix and make music

Berlin-based developers Magix have been producing software since 1993, including the perennially popular Music Maker production tool for Windows.
Now, Magix has introduced a music-making app for Android smartphones and tablets, a follow-up from the version that’s already available for Windows 8.
Music Maker Jam takes a more playful approach than the professional suite available for PCs, and it’s clearly aimed at novices looking to mess around with different sounds and mixes, rather than those wishing to create a smash hit. But it is fun nevertheless, and could get very addictive.

Everything You Need to Know About Rooting Your Android Phone

We love Android, but rooting your phone can give you the opportunity to do so much more than your phone can do out of the box—whether it's wireless tethering, speeding it up with overclocking, or customizing the look of your phone with themes. Here's what you need to know about the rooting process, and where to find a guide for your phone.
Update: This used to be our always up-to-date rooting guide, which proved to be too large an undertaking for us to keep up. It was a nice try, but seeing as we only have a few Android phones to test, we couldn't reliably keep it up to date. So, we've changed this guide into more of a general resource for those of you that want to get into rooting (though many of the old comments still remain).
Check out the glossary below to get acquainted with important rooting terms, then check out the FAQ for more info on your burning questions. When you're ready, check out the last section for resources on your specific device. We can't give you the instructions ourselves, but hopefully we can give you a push in the right direction and make the process easier for you.

What Is Rooting, Exactly?

How to Speed Up Your Old or Sluggish Android Device

Whether you're resisting the temptation to upgrade to newer, faster hardware, or a year's worth of use has made your Android phone feel slow and laggy, here are some ways to make your older phone run a bit smoother.
This guide provides a number of tips you can use to speed up your phone, and while not every tip will apply to you or your phone, you should find at least a few tips in here that will. Whether you've rooted your phone, overclocked, flashed a new ROM, or none of the above, you'll be able to take advantage of a number of the tweaks below to get your phone from sluggish and glitchy to quick and smooth.
Everyone's phone is different, too, so note that some of the more advanced tweaks may take a bit of trial and error on your part. I've experienced good things with these tweaks on my Motorola Droid (which, yes, had gotten pretty darn sluggish and glitchy, even for a barely year-old phone), but I'll note where a different approach to a specific tweak will help owners of older or more underpowered phones. Users with newer phones (like the Droid Incredible or Galaxy S) may not need these tips as much, but I've heard from several sources that even speedy phones like those have benefited from these tips, so they're worth playing around with no matter what phone you have.

If You Haven't Rooted Your Phone

There are a lot of great tweaks out there for rooted phones, but there are a ton of really simple things you can do to speed up your phone, even if you haven't done any hacking whatsoever.

Try a New Home Screen Launcher

How to Speed Up Your Old or Sluggish Android Device

We've talked about the benefits of other home screen launchers on more than one occasion, but I can't stress how great of an upgrade this can be. As always, I'm a huge proponent of LauncherPro, as it will not only bring you a noticeable speed increase upon installing it, but it also has lots of advanced features we can tweak to boost our speed even further (more on that later). Of course, ADWLauncher is also very popular, and the Android Market is rife with other options.
I'm going to write the rest of this tutorial from the perspective of a LauncherPro user, since from what I've seen, it has the most speed-boosting options, but you should be able to find many of the settings I mention below in other launchers, too—I'll note where a few of them are along the way, but you may have to do some poking around of your own depending on what Launcher you're using.

Lower the Number of Home Screens You Use And Ditch Those Widgets

How to Choose (and Install) the Right Android ROM for You

There are tons of great reasons to root your Android phone, but once you do, you'll likely be overwhelmed with all the custom ROM options out there. Here's how to go about finding—and installing—the one that fits your needs.
Images by Bretty Yoncak.

What's a ROM?

One of the best things about the openness of the Android platform is that if you're unhappy with the stock OS, you can install one of many modified versions of Android (called ROMs) on your device. The downside is that there are so many developers and different Android devices out there that the custom ROM scene can be very difficult to navigate. We're here to help the whole process seem a bit more manageable.

We briefly discussed using an app called ROM Manager in our Droid rooting tutorial, but today we're going to dig a bit deeper into the kind of ROMs that are available, how to pick the right one for you, and how to install new ROMs on your rooted Android device.

This guide assumes you've already rooted your device. Thus, if you haven't, be sure to do that first—it isn't that hard to do on most phones.

How to root your Android phone

Sick of network provider bloatware on your phone? Want your Android phone unlocked? Darren Yates shows you how to gain root access and install new ROMs.

Is the allure of being a superuser tempting you? Android rooting opens up a world of possibility, but it can also void your warranty, or even leave you with a bricked device. The important thing is to be careful. Read up about what you are going to do before you begin. Make sure that you backup your data. Follow the instructions to the letter. Manufacturers and carriers have a vested interest in dissuading you from rooting. If you’re careful, the risk is minimal, and the potential benefits are impressive. Let’s take a closer look.

What is rooting?

How To Use WhatsApp On PC and Send Free Messages To WhatsApp Users

Whatsapp is the best mobile application to exchange free multimedia message over internet. It supports most mobile devices today like BlackBerry, Nokia Series 40 and Symbian, Android, iPhone and Windows Phone. But they have not made any application to be used on a PC. It may be because it makes use of your phone number to route messages. But this problem can be solved by using verification by Phone call.

Thinking of the fact above, we have a nice and easy way to use WhatsApp on PC. You just need to install an application which emulates Android on your PC and then you can install WhatsApp in that application. After this you just need to confirm your phone number which can be easily done by verification by Call method.

REMEMBER You need to have different numbers on your mobile device and computer. This is because you can use a single number  with only one WhatsApp installation at a time. Also you can even get a land line number verified with WhatsApp because we will make use of verification by call, and a land line can obviously receive a phone call. Also if you need to use the same number on more than one device, then you will need to register it again and again with the device you need to use WhatsApp with.

3 Command Prompt Alternatives That Are Better than the Default

It’s 2013, who needs command prompt at this point, right? Wrong! For power users in particular, the , commands and even killing Windows system processes.
command prompt is still relevant for special tweaks
Unfortunately, command line might still be useful, but the actual Command Prompt tool really has fallen behind the times. While Microsoft makes occasional changes to the Command Prompt, it’s certainly not a major focus for the company.
The good news is that there are plenty of Command Prompt alternatives out there that use the same command line functions, but add quite a few modern conveniences such as tabbed windows, transparency, better copying and pasting, and so much more.
Let’s jump right in and take a look at three of the best command prompt replacements out there on the web:

ConEmu

Personally one of my favorite Command Prompt replacements, ConEmu  hasn’t been around terribly long (about a year or so), but has a ton of options and is highly customizable.

How to Pin Command Prompt on Windows 8 Taskbar and Start Screen to Run as Admin

There may be instances when one has to run Command Prompt as administrator to carry out certain tasks on the computer. In the earlier versions of Windows 7 (especially Ultimate Version) one could use the shortcut Shift+Enter in Windows Run box to run any file or application as admin, including the CMD Prompt. However, the trick does not work on Windows 8 Pro any more.

You can use the Shift+Enter shortcut in the start screen but then you either have to search for CMD or select it using the right mouse click. To make this simple task yet simpler, today I will show you how you can pin Command Prompt on Taskbar and Start Screen to always run as administrator.

Block Ads on All Your Devices with a Raspberry Pi

Ads can be one of the internet's more annoying things, and there are few things worse than watching a flash animation for deodorant suck up all your bandwidth. While you have plenty of software solutions to block ads, you can also do it on a deeper level with a Raspberry Pi.

This tutorial will show you how to use your Raspberry Pi as a WiFi access point that blocks ads by default for any devices using it. This is really neat in that it would work for your Android or iOS device, your Xbox 360, TiVo, laptop, and more without needing to customize any of those devices other than to use your Raspberry Pi as the access point for WiFi. Using an ad-blocker can be useful for conserving bandwidth, helping out low-power devices, or for keeping your sanity while browsing the web!

How to Enable Remote Desktop Connection for Multiple Computers on a Network

Remote Desktop is great for connecting to a Windows computer from another part of the network. You can get access to local drives, printers, files, etc. as if you were sitting in front of it. While this is great, an issue arises when you have multiple computers on a network that you want access to from outside the network. Access from the inside is granted to every client with RDP enabled, but when you are outside the network and operating through a router, for example, connecting via RDP is only natively available for one computer. This is because all the computers in the network are using the same RDP port.
Consider this: Your desktop is set up for remote connections via the default RDP port. You’re at a friends house and you need access to your desktop. You would connect as usual, implicitly defining the default 3389 port. Your router at home is set up to forward these remote requests to your desktop. All is well until you need access to your laptop. The natural idea would be to define another rule in the router to forward another RDP request to the laptop. This is impossible, however, to have the router forward RDP requests to two computers without defining a different port between the two.
This is why we have to then explicitly create a new RDP port on the laptop, make the changes necessary for the router, and then you’ll be able to connect to either the laptop or desktop without issue.
Let’s see how that’s done.

Change the RDP Port Number in the Registry
